Our Story

Nelson Coffee Roasters ethically sources and roasts high grade and seasonal coffee that puts a smile on your face.

Co-founded by Lucy and I, we have over 14 years of combined experience in the specialty coffee industry. Our passion for coffee began in 2009 when, on our honeymoon, we visited a specialty coffee shop in a quaint and charming town called Nelson, in British Columbia. Wow – we never knew coffee could taste that good. Sweet and balanced with incredible flavour, it took our breath away.

In the years that followed, we spent almost every waking hour learning as much as we could about specialty coffee before opening our first café in Eastbourne in 2014 called Nelson Coffee, named after the town that ignited our passion. The café has gone from strength to strength, winning several awards, being recommended in national newspapers and was most recently chosen by Ash Barty (Women’s number 1 tennis player) as her favourite café in the world!

Our endless pursuit of coffee perfection led to us, in 2020, deciding to roast our own coffee. After a steep learning curve and countless challenges, all of which have helped us to learn and develop, we are now immensely proud of the coffee that we serve in our café and sell to home enthusiasts and other likeminded cafés/restaurants.
