More info:
In Brazil, the name Santos has become a mark of excellence. It originates from the historic port of Santos, one of the largest coffee exporting ports in the country and the gateway through which Brazilian coffee first reached the world. Decades ago, coffees were graded as Santos 1, 2, 3, and so on, a system that has since been retired. Yet the name Santos has endured, carried forward by generations of farmers and a reputation built on quality and reliability.
This lot comes from smallholder producers across Sul de Minas, a region in southeastern Brazil known for its undulating landscapes, rich red soils, and near-perfect conditions for Arabica coffee. Here, families have cultivated coffee for decades, drawing on knowledge passed down through generations to produce lots that are balanced, approachable, and true to the character of Brazilian coffee.
To create this decaffeinated offering, the beans undergo the methylene chloride (MC) process, a method designed to remove caffeine while preserving the coffee’s natural flavor. The beans are first gently moistened, allowing the MC to bind with the caffeine and draw it out. Afterward, the beans are carefully steamed to remove any trace of the solvent. What remains is a cup that is smooth and flavorful, carrying the essence of Santos while offering the ease of a decaf experience.
Santos MC honors both tradition and innovation: a coffee rooted in Brazil’s rich history, crafted with care for those who want to enjoy the story and taste of Sul de Minas at any time of day.
