On the small coffee farm Sítio São Pedro in Bom Retiro, Santa Rita do Sapucaí, José Carlos R. Ferreira has worked his entire life. Growing Red Catuaí coffee at 1,200 meters above sea level, he follows the traditions passed down by his family. With a modest harvest of 70 bags per season, José Carlos takes pride in his hands-on farming methods.
He works alongside his wife and their two daughters, his wife helps sort the beans and manages the drying process. Despite the challenges of unpredictable weather and fluctuating prices, José Carlos remains dedicated to his land, never once considering leaving the place where he was born.
Though he’s never travelled far from home, José Carlos finds fulfilment in knowing that his coffee reaches distant markets, offering a taste of his family's labour and passion. For him, the greatest reward is not wealth, but the joy of seeing others enjoy the fruits of his hard work.
